What exactly are our dues used for? Our subdivision pays more than McConnell's trace and they have more landscaping. With all of the vandalism and gang activity occuring, we need to invest some of that money in deterring crime. People buy homes in certain areas because of the low crime rate, not how pretty the plants are at the front entrance of the subdivision.

I also think that given people's WHOLE house's are being spray painted with graffiti, we should be allowed to fence our house up to the garage to deter and prevent people from breaking in through side windows and spray painting the sides of houses.

Your dues are used for several things including Landscape Maintenance, Management Fees, and Legal Fees for those that do not pay there dues. The difference in McConnell's Trace and us is that they don't have as many common areas to maintain as we do. We have spoken to some of the property owners that own the property around the sinkholes about maintaining the land so we don't have to. One of them has complied and we will be able to drop our fees for maintenance next year. Also McConnell's Trace has more houses than we do (we only have 263) so the fees have to be higher in order to cover the expenses. However, we have been able to build up a little equity and we are checking into having some security issues addressed.
As far as the fencing issues go I feel like that would just be another flat surface for them to paint.

Yes, it would be another surface for them to paint. However, it's our house and our property. We bought it, own and it's in our name therefore we should be able to put up a fence where we want as long as it's not unsightly. B. If the gangsters paint the fence then it's way cheaper to paint a fence or replace a portion of a fence than it is to paint a whole house. Have you seen the house that was painted? If it were your house would you rather pay the cost of painting a fence or the cost of painting 3/4th's of your house?

I understand your concern and trust me if it were my house I would want them in jail. As I do now! We will look into the fencing restriction at our meeting on the 3rd of November.
